Why use a scrub and which one is right for your skin type?

In another blog post, we already explained the difference between toner and micellar water. Today, we want to give you more information about using a scrub. We'll also tell you which scrub is best for your skin type.

Did you know?

Your skin ages not only from dehydration, but also because your skin's cell division slows down. You can boost this cell division yourself and thus combat skin aging.

You can speed up your skin cell renewal by using a scrub. This removes dead skin cells, allowing for the growth of better-looking new ones.

Which scrub suits me?

Non-sensitive skin can use almost any type of scrub. The easiest scrub for this is a granular scrub (mechanical scrub). However, be aware that many manufacturers use plastic in their scrubs.

This is, of course, something we always want to avoid at My Dear. You'll only find cruelty-free, vegan, and plastic-free scrubs here!

If you are sensitive, it's best to use an enzymatic scrub. These don't have granules and are applied like a mask. Depending on the enzymatic mask, the application time will vary. During this time, the exfoliant "eats" away dead skin cells.

If you have normal to oily skin without any sensitivities, you can use one of the following scrubs : the moisturizing scrub from Naobay. The jojoba scrub from SPA is especially suitable for slightly oilier skin types because it also contains jojoba, which helps regulate sebum production. Or the gentle fruit scrub , which has a much rougher texture than the previous two.

For sensitive skin or skin with active breakouts, an enzymatic peel is recommended . These contain few or no granules, which reduces skin irritation. For active breakouts (active acne), we also want to avoid spreading the bacteria responsible for acne. With a granular peel, there's a risk of "opening" the pimple, giving the bacteria a path to other pores.

The Detox Black scrub from SPA is a godsend for these skin types. It contains charcoal, superfine granules, and an enzymatic complex. This makes it ideal for sensitive skin and/or blemishes because it leaves the skin intact. Apply the scrub like a mask and leave it on for 3 minutes. It's as easy as that.

How do you use a scrub?

We'll start with some important advice: never overexfoliate . Especially not during the winter months. We also distinguish between an enzymatic peel and a classic scrub.

Ideally, you should scrub once or twice a week. If you have very sensitive skin, scrubbing once a month is sufficient.
You can always ask for advice about this.

I use a regular scrub

  • Before you start, cleanse your skin as usual.
  • Apply the scrub to damp skin using circular movements.
  • Avoid the sensitive skin around the eyes.
  • Also, don't apply too much pressure, it should not feel uncomfortable.
  • Clean with lukewarm water.
  • Apply a moisturizer.

I use an enzymatic peel

  • Before you start, cleanse your skin as usual.
  • Apply the enzymatic peel. You'll need about 10 cents.
  • Leave the peeling on for 10 minutes.
  • Clean with lukewarm water.
  • Apply a moisturizer.

Finally, we'd like to point out that a body scrub is never suitable for use on your face. Your facial skin is much thinner and more sensitive than the rest of your body. So be sure to choose separate products.
