Here comes the sun

Yes, we'll get there! The sun is here, and we want to enjoy it! But how do you enjoy it safely? I'll tell you all about it in this blog post.

The sun

We all love to see them come and want to keep them around for as long as possible. But the sun can be an angel, but sometimes it can also be a little devil. And I'm happy to tell you how you can keep that devil under control.

UVA and UVB rays can cause sunburn and aging . They're sometimes referred to as UVA-aging rays and UVB-burn rays. It's important to understand exactly what these rays do.

UVA rays gradually nibble away at our cells, making them less beautiful and smooth. Consequently, the copies of these cells don't function properly. This is how the first signs of aging appear.

Of course, you can't live without the sun, because it has so many positive effects! Just imagine how much energy you get when you feel those first rays. It's a great way to soak up some vitamin D! So, I don't want to scare you at all, but use protection and everything will be fine.

From March to October, you should protect your skin daily with an SPF. The higher the SPF, the more protection. But be careful... after two hours, it's completely worn off and you'll need to reapply!

UVB rays cause our skin to burn. To prevent this, our skin initiates a process of creating a protective layer. You can see this as a tan or freckles.

When the skin has been damaged too much by sunburn, this tan will no longer be even. The melanin granules (which give the skin its tan) leak, creating a hyperpigmentation spot, or sunspot as it's sometimes called.

Here too, there's only one solution: APPLY. Applying sunscreen every two hours is essential for maintaining an even, blemish-free complexion. These don't appear immediately after sunburn, either. It can take several years for these blemishes to surface.

Which sunscreen do I recommend?

As always, I choose a plant-based and natural solution for sun protection at My Dear. I've found several that I'm really happy with, and they end up in my handbag for every occasion.

- Then there's sun protection for parties. When you're all dolled up and you're having a garden party, applying sunscreen over your makeup isn't really an option. That would be a real pain. That's where mineral foundation powder comes in! This loose mineral foundation SPF 25 from Inika is available for every skin tone and will keep you looking flawless all party long!

I also have a favorite for family vacations. This plant-based and natural sunscreen from The Lekker Company is fantastic, even for kids! It's non-sticky and has a very pleasant, fresh scent, so applying sunscreen is no longer a struggle.

- For the face, it's always a search. If you're prone to acne, it's not easy to find a sunscreen that won't make it worse. But I've found one that works for everyone. One with a very light texture that also nourishes the skin. A two-for-one! And that's this Anti-Aging Protect Cream from SPA.

Your lips can also get sunburned, which over time can create a brownish-brown rim around your lips. This, too, is a hyperpigmentation spot, and it's best to prevent it by applying SPF. This lip balm, packaged in a cardboard box, is ideal for this. Not only is it completely plant-based and natural, but you can also compost the packaging or throw it in your paper recycling bin.
