Voetproblemen vermijden doe je zo:

How to avoid foot problems:

Your feet deserve the right shoes – here's how to find them

Our feet literally carry us through life. They get us where we need to be, day after day. Yet, we often forget to take good care of them. Choosing the right shoes is a crucial part of that – not only for comfort, but also for our posture, health, and the well-being of our skin.

Unfortunately, our society is still obsessed with shoes that are "pretty" rather than comfortable. I hear it almost daily in my salon when someone is in pain and I say it's because of their shoes: "But I wear sneakers." Indeed, but those sneakers often have to be primarily attractive to sell well, rather than being comfortable across the board.

Why the right fit is so important

Every foot is unique. Some feet are a little wider, others a little higher on the instep. And that's precisely why there's no such thing as "one size fits all" when it comes to shoes. Shoes that are too narrow pinch and cause pressure points or calluses.

The key? Really getting to know your feet.

How to easily measure your feet yourself

A simple yet effective way to discover your foot shape:

  1. Take a white sheet of paper and a pencil or pen.

  2. Place your foot flat on the paper and carefully trace the outline. (Don't fall over, and hold your pen at an angle under your foot!)

  3. Cut out this shape.

  4. Take the cut-out sheet with you to the shoe store.

Place it on the sole of the shoe (or better yet, remove the insole and place your paper shape on top).
- Does the outline fit nicely within the lines? Then you probably have a good match.
- Does your design extend beyond the edge of the sole? Then the shoe is too narrow or too small for your foot.

It can be that easy to see which shoes really suit you — without any guesswork or discomfort afterward.

Insoles

For many of us, extra support is often necessary. Are your feet still bothering you after following the tips above? Then there's a good chance you've started walking incorrectly or something has sagged somewhere.

Take care of your shoes, take care of your feet

Good shoes deserve care too. Just as you function better with some attention and rest, so do your shoes.
A well-maintained shoe stays fresh for longer, breathes better and provides optimal support for your feet.

You can use Fungi Smart shoe spray for this—a clever, plant-based spray that helps protect your shoes from bacteria, odors, and moisture. This keeps them hygienic and comfortable to wear, while your feet enjoy a healthy indoor climate.

A conscious step forward

Taking care of your feet (and shoes) is an often-overlooked form of self-care. When you pay attention to the comfort of your feet, you not only give your body the rest it deserves, but also give yourself some softness back.

So the next time you're shopping for shoes, take a moment, listen to your feet, and give them what they need. They carry you—every single day. 🌿
